Come and sew along with Janet Poole (Great British Sewing Bee 2019) to learn how to make a machine-quilted cover or a pinafore dress in one of our Autumn-Winter 2019-20 workshops
Jelly Roll Quilting
Janet will show you how to make a machine-quilted cover, using pre-cut Jelly Roll Quilting Fabric.
This fun class will cover all you need to know to create a simple pieced quilt top, make a quilt sandwich, do machine quilting to hold it together and finish it neatly and securely with edge binding.
We will cover three variations on the Jelly Roll Race piecing technique and learn how to convert the sizes to create table mats, table runners or even, full size quilts.
The finished item will be a pram-size cover that you can take home as a fully finished make at the end of the two days, and all the techniques can be used to make full sized quilts at home.
This class is suitable for beginners who have never made a quilt before but you will need to know how to use your own sewing machine.
Sew a Pinafore Dress
The pinafore dress is a great transitional piece of clothing that can be made from a wide range of woven fabrics and you will learn some useful sewing techniques.
This exciting class covers all you need to know to create a Pinafore dress made to fit your size and you should go home with a finished garment.
We will cover three variations: a straightforward dress, an embellished version and how to adapt the pattern to use recycled clothing and fabrics which is most relevant in our current environmental efforts. This will allow you to produce a unique and personalised garment.
This class is suitable for beginners but you need to know how to use your own sewing machine.
We supply the pattern, you bring the material of your choice. Nearer the time we will need to know your basic measurements to make sure we have a pattern the correct size, and we will advise on fabric quantities and notions.
